The Dallas Cowboys have officially requested to speak with Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore about their vacant head coaching position, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the interview will take "at some point this weekend" before the Eagles' NFC Divisional Playoff game against the Rams on Sunday at 3pm.
Moore, 36, has been at the forefront of the list of potential candidates Jerry Jones would consider to take over for Mike McCarthy since the organization and the coach parted ways after five seasons on Monday.
During his media availability Tuesday, Moore was asked if he would be interested in the Cowboys head coaching vacancy.
“I mean, obviously I spent a lot of time there. Eight years there and so, obviously have plenty of relationships [in] that place,” Moore said. “I love it here. I’ve had so much fun here. It’s been a really fun process and we’re in a really special situation right now, getting the chance to play this Sunday. Have a chance to make a run at this thing and that’s really all you worry about.
“Everything else is what it is and we’ll see where it takes you.”
The Cowboys missed their opportunity to interview Moore last week while deciding McCarthy's fate and aren't permitted to interview their former offensive coordinator until the end of the playoffs.
The Cowboys had an elite offense in Moore's four seasons calling the plays, as Dallas led the NFL in scoring (29.7 points per game) and yards per game (414.7) from 2019-2022, according to 105.3 The Fan's Bobby Belt.
Dallas was also second in yards per play (6.1) and passing touchdowns (103), and third in rushing touchdowns (62).
Under his watch in Philadelphia this season, the Eagles offense was No. 8 in total yards (367.2) and No. 7 in scoring (27.2).
Moore left Dallas to become the offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers in 2023 after he and the Cowboys mutually parted ways. The Eagles brought him in to be offensive coordinator after Jim Harbaugh took over in Los Angeles and hired his own coaching staff.
Moore joins former New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh and assistant head coach Leslie Frazier as official candidates for the position.
Dallas will reportedly interview Saleh on Saturday and Frazier on Monday.
