Donovan McNabb says we're seeing the evolution of Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts, as he develops into a pocket passer.
"You're seeing a quarterback that is developing and becoming more of a pocket passer and showing that he has the ability to do such," McNabb told Jon Marks & Ike Reese on Monday's 94WIP Afternoon Show. "And that's what the development of an NFL quarterback is supposed to be about...over the years you start to understand blocking scheme and timing and knowing that you have much more time than you think in the pocket to go through your reads. And that's exactly what we've seen in really the last two weeks with Jalen.
"Now, I think the play calling has played such a major factor in that and also, the running game. When you're able to run the football north and south, getting your running back downhill, linebackers now have to respect that and be able to read their keys and safeties are the same. So I love what we're doing right now, offensively."
Hurts has now thrown for 300-plus yards in two straight games, completing over 65-percent of his passes in both of those games. For the season, Hurts is completing 67.3-percent of his passes for 1,262 yards, six touchdowns, and four interceptions and the Eagles are 5-0.
However, while McNabb is focused on Hurts' development as a pocket passer, he had a season-high 15 rushing attempts for a season-high 72 rushing yards and a "tush push" touchdown. Hurts became the first NFL QB in history to record 30 rushing touchdowns in his first 50 NFL games.
