Giants owner John Mara 'hated' seeing Saquon Barkley leave and sign with Eagles

New York Giants owner John Mara spoke about his team's former star running back Saquon Barkley leaving and signing a contract with the division rival Philadelphia Eagles.

Mara, the 69-year-old principal owner of the franchise speaking at the NFL owners meetings in Orlando on Monday, admitted he "hated" seeing Barkley leave and him going to the Eagles made it even tougher.

Barkley, 27, signed a three-year deal with Philadelphia worth up to $47 million with $26 million guaranteed.

The signing caused a stir among Giants fans and media, none louder than the franchise's number one all-time running back and WFAN radio host Tiki Barber saying Barkley "dead to me."

"I got the deal I wanted," Barkley posted on X (formerly known as Twitter). "So if fans are gonna hate me for that so be it! But I never turned my back on my teammates and always had theirs.

"You been a hater since I got to New York," Barkley said. "And all the "Dead to me" talk don't smile in my face when you see me."
