The Eagles are flying high at 10-2 and winners of eight straight, and while Joe Giglio doesn’t have any alarming concerns, he does believe that the quarterback is not the type that will put the team on his back in a critical playoff game.
“There’s no question that Jalen Hurts has played better...with what he’s asked him to do, he’s played well,” Joe said. “But you look at this thing like it’s a car. He’s not driving. He’s along for the ride.
“They’re not asking him to do a lot. Compared to the rest of the league, he’s doing a lot less...he’s still in the car, but he’s not driving this bus right now. Saquon is. The offensive line is. The defense is at times. Jalen is in the back, playing cards, hanging out, and having a good time.”
Hugh Douglas pushed back on that idea, and says that, while Hurts isn’t doing anything more than what’s asked of him, he believes Hurts would be capable of it if needed.
“I know there are things that, during the course of the season, we saw that he couldn’t do,” Hugh said. “But this team goes as Jalen Hurts goes. I know it might sound crazy because of the season Saquon Barkley is having, but Jalen Hurts is still a good quarterback. You can’t tell me we’re having these same results with Kenny Two Gloves [Pickett] out there.
“He is bringing a dynamic to the field that is not quantifiable because Saquon Barkley is overshadowing everything.”
Joe doesn’t see Hurts being the driving force of the Eagles offense, but he also doesn’t see that being a reason why the Birds can’t win the Super Bowl.
“We’re watching a game manager, and that’s okay,” Joe said. “Game managers have won Super Bowls.”
