The Lions take on the Packers on Thursday night in a game that has huge implications on who will get the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs.
Should the Lions hang on (they currently lead the Eagles by a game), they would host the NFC title game if they make it that far, while Philly would get to host a potential NFC championship game at the Linc.
Is it pivotal to the Eagles’ Super Bowl hopes that they clinch that top seed and ensure a home game if they played Detroit in the playoffs? Hugh Douglas says it would be big, but it’s not necessary.
“I would love the Lions to lose this game. The one seed is important,” Hugh said. “But I don’t think the Eagles need the one seed to be successful.
“I think there’s a strong possibility that the Lions lose tonight. They should have lost last week. But I like to be the master of my destiny...especially when it comes to football. I’m going to do everything in my power to get the one seed, but if I don’t, I’m prepared for what happens next.”
Hugh credits the Lions for being a dangerous team, and it would be great to have them come to chilly Philadelphia with a Super Bowl berth on the line, but he believes the Eagles are showing that they are the healthier team right now, and that he would bet on the Birds defense traveling and containing Jared Goff and company should the two teams meet at Ford Field.
“The way this defense is playing,” Hugh said. “I think they’re prepared for it as well.”
