Philadelphia Phillies icon Jimmy Rollins will manage the American League during the 2022 All-Star Futures Game, the league announced Wednesday.

Upper Darby native Mike Scioscia will manage the National League team.

Since last playing in 2016, Rollins has stayed very active in and around the sport. In addition to making occasional appearances on NBC Sports Philadelphia's broadcasts of the Phillies, Rollins has become a fixture during TBS' studio coverage. He also recently launched an Audacy original podcast with Ron Darling entitled Unwritten: Behind Baseball's Secret Rules. Earlier this year, the Phillies also named Rollins a special advisor to president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski.

Is this the first step of Rollins, 43, trying to begin a career as a manager? Probably not, but that won't stop speculation from Phillies fans who wonder who will manage the team in 2023 if Rob Thomson proves to just be an interim manager.

Meanwhile, Scioscia won two American League Manager of the Year Awards during a 19-year run as the skipper of the Los Angeles Angels, which included leading the franchise to their first World Series title in 2002. Scioscia was said to have some interest in potentially managing the Phillies back in the summer of 2019, when Gabe Kapler's future was in doubt. But a few years later, the 63-year-old told Audacy Sports MLB Insider Jon Heyman that he is enjoying coaching youth baseball currently.

The Futures Game will take place at Dodger Stadium on Saturday, July 17. Catcher Logan O'Hoppe and pitchers Mick Abel and Andrew Painter could be candidates to represent the Phillies during the game.
