Joe Giglio went on the record today stating he wants the Eagles to go acquire Justin Fields to backup Jalen Hurts and gave five football reasons for why they should do it.

"They need to call the Chicago Bears and they need to trade for Justin Fields," Giglio said at the beginning of Thursday's 94WIP Midday Show. "I am all in on this. It has gone, for me, like, 'Hmm that's interesting,' to something they absolutely have to do.

"Yesterday, we heard a lot about feelings, about what would happen, about the downsides. How about football reasons the Eagles should trade for Justin Fields.

1. He's talented

Giglio: "Potential to be something if he is coached up the right way."

2. He can run

Giglio: "If he has to come in he can keep the offense to some sort of level because he has physical ability."

3. Starting experience

Giglio: "We had a caller yesterday about [2023 Eagles' sixth-round pick] Tanner McKee. Guys the Eagles are trying to win a Super Bowl. I'm not giving the ball to Tanner McKee in a big game in December."

4. The cost is not prohibitive

Giglio: "The Bears are in a rough spot, they can't find a spot for him and they got to draft another kid No. 1 [overall].

5. Eagles' history

Giglio: "Typically it works. It worked when they brought Mike Vick in...It worked when they brought Foles back...And it worked with Jalen."

Giglio: "I am not looking to replace Hurts, I am looking to have the best possible backup."

The market for Fields, a 25-year-old 2021 11th overall pick out of Ohio State, is drying up quickly and reports indicate teams are now considering him as a backup rather than a starter.

In 2024, Fields will earn a base salary of $1.6 million while carrying a cap hit of $6 million, per spotrac. However, the team that acquires Fields will only be on the hook for $2.7 million. He has a 2025 fifth-year team option for $25.6 million.

The holdup on a potential Fields trade is reportedly the Bears' asking price.

A huge debate about the Eagles' potentially acquiring Fields broke out during Wednesday's 94WIP Birds Town Hall between Eliot Shorr-Parks and James Seltzer in the 11am hour and the conversation continued into the 4pm hour, and now into today.

Fields struggled in his first three NFL seasons completing just 60.3-percent of his passes while throwing 40 touchdowns to 30 interceptions going 10-28 in 38 starts.

Fields has been dynamic as a rusher, rushing for 2,220 yards over 38 games, including 1,143 yards and eight touchdowns in 15 games in 2022.

Earlier this week, former Eagles backup QB Marcus Mariota signed a one-yeal deal with the Washington Commanders worth $6 million and potentially up to $10 million with incentives.
