Philadelphia Phillies manager Rob Thomson benched Trea Turner for Wednesday's game against the Marlins, putting Nick Castellanos in the two-hole, a potential new batting order wrinkle he could use heading into the postseason.
"I saw another option for Topper," Joe Giglio said on Thursday's 94WIP Midday Show with Hugh Douglas. "Now, tonight, maybe it's not. Maybe he just puts Trea back at two, that's what I would guess.
"He has another option now. He's seen it, we've all seen it that if Trea doesn't wake up—he'll play most days—but maybe not hitting second. They can go back to the well of Schwarber, Castellanos, Bryce, Bohm."
The Phillies snapped a four-game losing streak with a much needed 9-5 win over the Marlins, erasing two separate three-run deficits and avoiding a two-game sweep at home largely due to a massive grand slam by Kyle Schwarber.
Every Phillies starter except for Edmundo Sosa recorded at least one hit, while Bryce Harper, Alec Bohm, Bryson Stott, J.T. Realmuto, and Brandon Marsh all had two hits a piece.
Turner has been struggling mightily, as he is just 16-95 (.168) over his last 22 games.
