Giglio: 'I would still keep Nola in playoff rotation'

Aaron Nola is struggling and the question that people are starting to ask if, should he be in the Phillies' playoff starting rotation?

Joe Giglio says yes.

"For me, he would," Giglio said on Thursday's 94WIP Midday Show. "I still would give him the ball. I still would put him in the playoff rotation for this reason—I know what I've seen this year, it has not been good. But I still think his upside, like if he figures it out, it's better than everyone but Wheeler. And, I think with the other guys they have, I could see them going in the bullpen—Lorenzen, Suarez, whoever. The other guys they have behind Nola could help out in the bullpen. I don't know if Nola would be a bullpen guy if he's not starting. So I think it makes them the best version of themselves, if he can figure it out and be in the rotation. Hugh, I would still trust him, but boy it's getting harder to feel that way every time he pitches."

Nola has allowed 18 earned runs and six home runs over his last five starts, pitching more than 5.1 innings in just one of those five starts.

The 30-year-old starter has allowed 27 home runs this season. Only three Major League Baseball pitchers have allowed more.
