Schlereth still skeptical of Eagles: ‘We're really going to find out who Philadelphia is when they play San Francisco'

Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles completed their fourth straight comeback victory on Sunday with an overtime win against the Bills. They've now beaten the Bills, Chiefs, Cowboys, Commanders, and Dolphins in their past five games -- a stretch that was expected to test the Birds.

Despite a 10-1 record, some are still skeptical about the Eagles.

NFL Insider Mark Schlereth of the Audacy Original Podcast “Stinkin Truth” gave his thoughts on the Eagles and explained why there is still some skepticism around Philadelphia.

“Interestingly enough about Philly, anybody that watched Philly and Kansas City would tell you that Kansas City more lost that game than Philly necessarily went out there and won that game,” Schlereth said (2:25 in player above). “So I think there were still some question marks. Now there are still going to be some question marks because the Buffalo Bills, let’s face it, we’ve talked about this since preseason, something feels wrong in Buffalo.”

The Eagles trailed 17-7 in Kansas City at halftime before blanking the Chiefs with 14 unanswered points in the second half en route to a 21-17 win. They erased another 17-7 halftime deficit with a fourth-quarter comeback on Sunday against Buffalo.

Schlereth still believes the real test is yet to come.

“As good as I think Philly is, and you know how much respect I have for Philly with the way they can dominate the line of scrimmage and all the things they do well. And I like their quarterback, Jalen Hurts, love his ability in general, his demeanor, the way he leads his football team,” he said. “As good as that Buffalo win is, as good as that Kansas City win is, we’re really going to find out who Philadelphia is when they play San Francisco next week.”

The Eagles beat the 49ers 31-7 in last year’s NFC Championship Game, a contest that led to some trash talking in the offseason due to San Francisco’s injury situation at quarterback.

Schlereth needs to see the Eagles do that again, even though San Francisco lost three straight games to inferior opponents last month.

“I don’t (have questions about Philly) but I think America does. I think the general population still looks at Philly and has – well hell, people in Philly look at Philly and they don’t like their coordinators, they don’t like this – they have some skepticism about them,” Schlereth said. “Something doesn’t feel like it did necessarily last year.

“So I think this San Francisco game, for me, really is going – it’s clearly the two best teams in the National Football League, or at least in the NFC, from a roster construction standpoint and the way they’re playing.”

The 49ers are currently three-point favorites against the Eagles in Philadelphia on Sunday.
