Fast-food chains are challenging the ongoing chicken sandwich war by adding new seafood options to their menus during Lent.
The religious season began this week with Ash Wednesday and lasts for six-weeks until Easter, during which, practicing Christians abstain from eating meat on the holy days and on Fridays.

McDonald’s is continuing to offer its classic Filet-O-Fish sandwich, which was created as a direct response to the Roman Catholic population. The sandwich includes fish sourced from sustainable fisheries, topped with American cheese and tartar sauce.
The creator of the popular chicken sandwich trend, Popeye’s, has switched up their usual crowd favorite with a the Cajun flounder sandwich now available in restaurants and for delivery nationwide for only $4.49.
The sandwich is made with Pacific flounder and seasoned with a blend of the Louisiana-rooted brand’s Cajun mild and spicy seasoning. The fish filet is served on the same buttery, toasted brioche bun with pickles.
Red Lobster is offering a variety of of delicious seafood options over Lent this year. Guests can indulge in Fish Fry Friday, feature hand-battered, wild-caught cod served with fries and coleslaw for only $11.99.
Fish lovers can also try the Fish Fry Mix, complete with all of the flavors and spices needed for seafood at home. The Fish Fry Mix is available at grocery stores and online.
Sonic's Premium Fish Sandwich available nationwide features deep-fried Alaskan Pollock, tartar sauce, lettuce, and pickles, all served on a toasted brioche bun. Try pairing the sandwich with classic Sonic tater tots and a small drink for only $6.99.
Back by popular demand, Smashburger is offering the Beer-Battered Pacific Cod Sandwich now available for a limited time only. The fast-casual burger chain is offering the fish burger every Friday from February 26 through April 2.
The southern fast-food chain has released its Bojangler fish sandwich, an Alaskan Pollock filet dusted in Bo’s famous seasoning and topped with a slice of American cheese and creamy tatar sauce.

Now through Easter, White Castle is serving Seafood Crab Cake Sliders and Shrimp Nibblers for a limited time. The chain’s menu includes traditional seafood options like the Panko Fish Slider and Fish Nibblers, which are both made with Alaska Pollock.
Carl’s Jr. and Hardee’s
Carl’s Jr. added a beer-battered fish sandwich topped with creamy tartar sauce and shredded lettuce on a toasted plain bun for only $3.29 at participating locations.
Hardee’s also offers a beer-battered sandwich with tartar sauce but uses leaf lettuce and a seeded bun for the same price.
The popular tex-mex restaurant offers new Crispy Jumbo Shrimp Honey Mango Taco and the new Crispy Jump Shrimp Honey Mango Taco.
Customers can purchase 2 tacos for $5, or even try the new crispy fish and guacamole burrito made with Alaskan Pollock, romaine and iceberg lettuce, fresh guacamole, diced tomatoes, crispy tortilla strips and avocado Caesar dressing, wrapped in an oversized flour tortilla.
