McDonald’s wants to help ease those Monday blues.
To start your work week on the right track, the fast-food chain is giving away free Egg McMuffin sandwiches this Monday morning.
With the iconic breakfast sandwich approaching its 50th anniversary, the Golden Arches decided to create a holiday in its honor and is inaugurating Monday, March 2nd as National Egg McMuffin Day.
"While we're giving the Egg McMuffin its moment, we're really honoring our breakfast fans who have woken up with McDonald's breakfast for nearly 50 years,” the company said in a statement. “And we just thought, 'hey, why not declare March 2 as National Egg McMuffin Day?'”
Now to celebrate this delicious occasion, you can’t just head to McDonald’s and ask for a free McMuffin.
Fans first need to download the McDonald’s mobile app and then redeem the free offer between 6am and 10:30 am local time at any of their participating locations nationwide. No other purchase is required and you are only allowed one free sandwich.
Created in 1971, the 300 calorie Egg McMuffin features a Grade A egg on a toasted English Muffin topped with butter, Canadian bacon and melted American cheese.
While McDonald’s didn’t make mention of it, Monday is also the first day that Wendy’s is rolling out their new breakfast menu across the country.
Back in February, Wendy’s announced they would be expanding their morning menu items, which are currently only available in 300 locations, nationwide.
Some of the items that will be offered include a Breakfast Baconator, Honey Butter chicken Biscuit and Frosty-ccino drink. Other offerings include potato wedges and different blends of coffee.
After Wendy’s caught wind of McDonald’s Egg McMuffin promotion, they, once again, went on snark attack and declared that their breakfast sandwich had met its demise. The company tweeted an image of a tombstone that said “RIP” and “Egg McMuffin 1972- 2020,” and added the caption, “Here lies mediocrity. #EggRIPMuffin.”
McDonald’s has yet to respond, but it appears the breakfast menu wars are the new chicken sandwich wars!
Regardless, whether you grab your free Egg McMuffin or try one of Wendy’s new breakfast items, there’s a lot to look forward to on Monday.
