WATCH: Joe Biden and Mike Pence take part in virtual National Day of Prayer event

President Joe Biden and former Vice President Mike Pence participated in’s National Day of Prayer virtual event on Thursday.

Both Biden and Pence provided pre-recorded video prayers for the event.

The virtual event took place on the 69th annual National Day of Prayer on Thursday, May 6.

Every year, the National Day of Prayer provides an opportunity for people to boost their spiritual and mental wellbeing.

In observance of the holiday this year, broadcasted the live event to emphasize prayer’s benefits at a time when many people are experiencing increased stress, anxiety and depression.

“We are honored and blessed to have the President of the United States join’s National Day of Prayer event with a pre-recorded message to help strengthen and unify our nation as we work to defeat this global Pandemic. We are humbled to take part in this unifying moment in our nation’s history, that will include the President and several national political leaders who are coming together to join millions of people from all backgrounds to ask God to bring hope, healing, and health to all our communities.” said co-founder Steve Gatena in a statement.

In addition to Biden and Pence, the event featured hosts, pastors Ronnie Floyd, Sam Collier, Dr. Ed Young, Sr., Mark Driscoll and Samuel Rodriguez.

The online gathering also featured musical performances by Christian artists including Hillsong’s Brooke Ligertwood, Lecrae and Michael Neale.

Silicon Valley tech speakers and authors Nona Jones and Nick Hall appeared alongside founders Steve Gatena, Mike Lynn, Ryan Beck, and Matthew Potter for the virtual prayer service.
