Starbucks is giving fans a free gift in honor of its 50th anniversary.
The chain is celebrating turning the big 5-0 by offering customers a free cup of joe for National Coffee Day.
To score the freebie, customers just need to bring a clean, empty, reusable cup (up to 20 fl. oz.) into a participating location on September 29th (that’s today!) and they will receive a free cup of Pike Place® Roast brewed coffee.
“Pike Place Roast represents Starbucks decades of coffee roasting experience, knowledge and passion,” the company said in a press release. “Named after the location of the original store in Seattle’s Pike Place Market that opened in 1971, Pike Place Roast is Starbucks signature medium roast coffee served in stores everyday around the world.”
In addition, Starbucks Reserve Roasteries in Seattle, Chicago and New York City will also celebrate the anniversary on September 29th by giving customers who bring in a clean, empty reusable cup a free Starbucks Reserve coffee or cold brew.
While celebrating National Coffee Day, some may want to take advantage of beverages on Starbucks’ “secret menu.” Although not officially sanctioned by the chain, fans have concocted viral recipes for beverages with wild names like “Dragon Frappuccino” and the “Dirty Chai Latte.” In order to get them, you have to know exactly how to order one because you can’t simply ask the barista for it by name.
However in 2017, after becoming extremely popular, Starbucks did officially put “the Pink Drink” secret item on its year-round menu. So you never know.
In the meantime, the good people at Workshopedia analyzed Google data to come up with the list of the most popular secret menu items in each state.
And perhaps going mainstream worked out as the Pink Drink, which is made with Strawberry Acai Refreshers® with accents of passion fruit and acai combined with Coconutmilk and a scoop of strawberries, was still the most popular drink in 20 states. The beverage won hearts in Arizona, Connecticut, Delaware, DC, Hawaii, Idaho, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Mississippi, Missouri, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming.
While the Dirty Chai Latte, which consists of milk, water, Chai tea concentrate, and a shot of espresso, was the clear favorite in Arizona, Colorado, Georgia, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and North Carolina.
Whatever your drink of choice, Happy National Coffee Day!
