According to Reader's Digest, the color of the twist tie or plastic tag coordinates with the day the bread was baked!

Because bakeries are usually closed Wednesdays and Sundays, there are only five colors to remember:

Blue - Monday
Green - Tuesday
Red - Thursday
White - Friday
Yellow - Saturday

There's also an easy way to remember when you are out shopping. The colors are in alphabetical order by day of the week.

Do note, however, that systems can vary from bakery to bakery, though this method can primarily be found at major chain stores.
