Since face masks are required in most public places, plenty of companies are jumping on the opportunity to create their own, including Apple.
The technology giant best known for its innovative phones and computers began manufacturing face masks strictly for employees.
YouTuber Lewis George Hilsenteger of Unbox Therapy was lucky enough to get his hands on the product and recorded an unboxing video for his followers, which he called one of the most “unusual” ones to date.
Now, the packaging might have you fooled. If you weren’t aware that you were getting masks, you’d think it was the latest iPhone as the facial coverings come in Apple’s signature and minimalist white box.
Inside you’ll find five reusable masks along with small clips to adjust and secure them behind your ears.
Apples notes the masks should be washed after eight hours of usage and should only be worn five times total before being discarded.
The tech company also reportedly claims that their mask is better than surgical masks, and Hilsenteger confirms it seems to be more structured than the disposable masks.
"It feels very secure. I definitely feel more sealed off than a standard surgical mask,” he explains.
Bloomberg reports that the masks – developed by the same engineering and design teams that work on the tech products – have three layers to filter particles and flaps for protecting the nose and chin.
Hilsenteger even tested the mask with sunglasses and was able to tighten the nose seal to prevent fogging, which is a constant problem for those who wear glasses.
Apple also has transparent face masks known as the ClearMask to help people who are deaf and rely on lip reading.
Sadly, the masks are not available for purchase; only employees will be able to get their hands on them.
Previously, high fashion company Louis Vuitton created a luxurious face shield featuring “an elastic monogrammed strap that goes around the wearer’s head” along with a moveable shield that’s held together by gold studs engraved in the brand logo.
This one is available for purchase if you have roughly $1,000.
If you haven’t already, you may want to invest in a proper face mask and many health experts including Dr. Anthony Fauci believe they’ll be around for a while even after a vaccine is released.
“We have clear scientific evidence they work, and they are our best defense,” he said. “I might even go so far as to say that this face mask is more guaranteed to protect me against COVID than when I take a COVID vaccine.”
