National Voter Registration Day: Make sure your voice is heard in the 2020 election

National Voter Registration Day is today, Tuesday, Sept. 22.

Volunteers and organizations are working together to spread the word about registering to vote in the 2020 election.

This year’s event is the ninth annual celebration of the day, which was established in 2012 to encourage the “broad awareness of voter registration opportunities,” according to the National Voter Registration Day site.

The day, celebrated on the fourth Tuesday of September, has been endorsed by organizations including the National Association of Secretaries of State (NASS), the National Association of State Election Directors (NASED), the U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC), and the National Association of Election Officials (The Election Center).

Through the day’s official site, voters can register to vote, request mail-in ballots and learn about organizations.

Voter registration deadlines for the general election vary around the country. Find out when the deadline to register is in your state here.
