The Wuhan laboratory that is believed to be the place where the novel coronavirus originated has been using U.S. money to conduct research on bats.
The Wuhan Institute of Virology began experimenting on bats from caves in the Yunnan province - which were reportedly the original carriers of the virus - using a $3.7 million grant from the U.S. National Institutes of Health.
This revelation has sparked outrage and fear at the idea of not only the U.S. funding animal experiments, but also the idea that the lab may be the origin of the virus, rather than the infamous wet markets that sell the bats as food.
