NEW YORK (WCBS 880) -- The Bethpage Air Show was canceled again Sunday due to inclement weather but will take place on Memorial Day for the first time.
The air show at Jones Beach State Park was also canceled Saturday because of “extremely poor weather conditions.” Officials canceled it again Sunday as rainy and unseasonably cold weather continued.
“The decision is necessary to ensure the safety of the performers and the spectators,” Caitlin Pannacchione, of New York State Parks, said.
However, the 2021 air show will take place Monday from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., officials announced. It’s the first time the performance will be held on Memorial Day since it launched at Jones Beach in 2004.
“I'm tremendously grateful for all the partners, performers and staff who are pulling together to make Monday's show happen,” State Parks Commissioner Erik Kulleseid said. “We're excited for the traditional summer season at Jones Beach, starting with the Bethpage Air Show.”
All tickets for either Saturday or Sunday's show, including all passes issued to Long Island's health care heroes, will be honored.
Officials believe weather will improve enough to hold the air show Monday afternoon. The latest information can be found at bethpageairshow.com.
