Country singer Chris Janson joined Audacy's Rob + Holly for the Friday Night Takeover last week, amid the release of his new single "Bye Mom," talk of a brand new album being prepared for early 2022, and the announcement of a string of tour dates starting in the new year.

Of course, the title track of Janson's critically-acclaimed Buy Me A Boat album also had to be discussed, as well as the family and friend-filled video that accompanied the single.

Chris says the original, low budget clip that he shot to go along with the song originally included scenes of fun at the lake featuring his friends, including LOCASH and Charles Esten from Netflix's Outer Banks. When approached to do an official video by CMT, that feeling of closeness was kept intact. "That's my family and friends," Chris explains. "I mean, my brother-in-law is on that boat, Shane... of course, my wife is there, my kids are there, and my bonus son, Graham, my oldest son, he's on the boat with us. Charles Esten is in that video as well. He came into this video too, that was good to kind of recreate that moment."

It wasn't always all about fun in the sun on the open water for Janson; he's a muscle car guy at heart. Along his journey, Chris had the chance to purchase his "dream car," a Bentley Continental GT Speed. But, as so many things in life turn out, he found once he had what he thought he wanted for so long, the experience was empty.

"I've realized something," Chris says. "Where I'm at in my life, I'm so blessed that I have pretty much done everything that I've set out to do and continue to do so -- and I'm grateful for that opportunity." He says when he finally made the "dream car" purchase, "it was not as special as what I thought It was gonna be. Once I got it, it was like, 'oh cool, now I got it. Guess what, nobody cares that I have it!' You know, getting rid of it was honestly one of the greatest days. It just felt good to get rid of it. I was like, 'I didn't need it in the first place.'"

Odd choice, a Bentley, for a good 'ol country boy, but Chris says he "grew up a muscle car guy. My first car was a '69 Coronet 440, '71 Roadrunner, '72 Cutlass 442 -- I've had all that." Now, "I'm not interested in things that I have to have a carburetor to work on," he explains. "I am not a mechanic, I can admit that, so I don't want anything that I have to wrench and tinker on."

"Even saying it now is kind of cringey," Chris laughs, "'I got a Bentley.'" Aside from the looks, and worries of damaging it at Taco Bell, "honestly, I'm just not that guy, so I got rid of that thing pretty quick. I never drove it! It's stupid to own stuff like that in my opinion... I like nice stuff, but I don't need those things to make me happy anymore. I find my happy with Jesus Christ, I find it with my wife, my kids. I find it hunting, I love real estate, I love music... obviously, that's why I do it. I just find my peace and happiness in other things."

Chris recently served up the first taste of his current project with his new single, “Bye Mom,” and also announced a run of live dates for 2022. Hear more about his new music and upcoming Halfway To Crazy tour in the full podcast with Rob + Holly below.
