NEWARK, N.J. (1010 WINS) — A Hawaii man is facing a fine after security agents found an antique gun during a security screening Saturday at Newark Liberty International Airport.
"It looked like the wild, wild west for a bit on Saturday when @TSA officers detected this antique handgun in a traveler's carry-on bag at @EWRairport
checkpoint," TSA spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein tweeted, along with a photo of the gun.
The incident took place at Terminal A.
According to NJ.com. the man reportedly told officials the gun belonged to his father and he forgot it inside his carry-on bag. Guns can be transported on planes only if they are in a checked bag and are declared.
Police allowed the traveler to leave the airport and secure his gun.
Saturday's incident is the 11th one where a gun was taken at a Newark Liberty checkpoint this year.
