“I’m 35, so I grew up going to high school in the 2000s and that era of music was always good,” he told Audacy’s Coop. “I was at a writing retreat and my buddy Jake started playing the riff that ended up being “Mine for the Summer.’ When he first started playing it we didn’t have an idea for it, I was just like, ‘it would be cool if it was a 6-8, 2000s Rock thing, and I was like, ‘Dude, it reminds me of 'Iris' [by the Goo Goo Dolls].’
With that, “Mine for the Summer” was born and according to Rodgers is the first of a lot of new music to come, although he isn’t entirely sure of the format it’ll be released in… yet.
“We have a bunch of material to release,” he shared. “We haven’t sat down and said, ‘This is what it’s all gonna end up being at the end of the year.’ It’ll more than likely be an album of some sort at the end of the year.”
