NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — Now that the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program has ended, Long Island will host a huge job fair to help people get back on their feet.
"It's very critical that we do everything we can to get people back to work," Assemblyman Doug Smith told WCBS 880's Sophia Hall on Monday ahead of the event.

Thirty companies will participate in a job fair Tuesday at the Holiday Inn located at 1730 North Ocean Ave. in Holtsville on Tuesday starting at 9:30 a.m.
"Right now being the first week that the federal unemployment benefits have expired, a lot of New Yorkers, particularly gig workers, self-employed, and others who have really relied on this additional payment, they need to find new work to help support their families," Smith said.
Assemblyman Dean Murray said there will be a wide-array of companies looking to fill positions.
"It's the fallacy out there that that's all that's available are fast food jobs and minimum wage jobs and that's just not the case," Murray said. "We've got over 30 companies, all of them with different positions that they're looking for from programmers to retail positions."
Magellan Aerospace, Always Compassionate Home Care, the Air National Guard are among those that will be present at the job fair.
"But the one thing out of the 30 companies that you won't see — not a single fast food restaurant," Murray said.
The job fair will be held until 2:30 p.m. and Murray recommends job seekers arrive early.
"I do recommend they get here the earlier the better, bring lots of resumés, and dress to impress because there will be on-site interviews," Murray said.
Another job fair will also be held Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the LongIsland Cares Community Engagement Center located at 75 Davids Drive in Hauppauge.
Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone announced 28 companies will participate, including Alken Industries Inc; Bren-Tronics, Inc.; CPI Aero; Central Semiconductor Corp; Contract Pharmacal Corporation; Davis Aircraft Products Co., Inc; Designatronics, Inc.; East/WestIndustries; Europastry; Kedrion Biopharma; Land O'Lakes Inc; Micromatter Technologies Inc.
