Mets to ditch negative COVID-19 test requirement for fans at Citi Field

NEW YORK (WCBS 880) — The New York Mets have updated their health and safety guidelines for fans who come to the ballpark in Queens.

Starting with the team's next homestand on Monday, fans will no longer be required to show proof of a negative COVID-19 test to enter Citi Field.

The Mets will also open 21 seating sections to fully vaccinated fans that will be free of social-distancing rules.

Those sections will hold 3,870 fans, bringing the total capacity at Citi Field to 12,222 fans, and are reserved for fans ages 16 and older who are fully vaccinated.

According to the CDC, people are considered fully vaccinated 2 weeks after their second dose in a 2-dose series, such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines; or two weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine.

Fans won't be required to wear masks while seated in the fully vaccinated sections, but face coverings will be mandatory in the rest of the stadium.

Fans with tickets for the fully vaccinated section must provide proof of vaccination and will have designated entry at the Bullpen Gate.

Tickets in fully vaccinated fan sections are available at Mets.com/VaccinatedSections.

According to a press release, "the Mets are offering vouchers, good for two tickets to a future Mets game (blackout dates apply), to the first 250 fans who receive either dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine at Citi Field each day during the team's next two homestands (May 24-30 and June 11-17). Fans may instead choose to receive a complimentary ticket to the game on the same day they receive the vaccine, based on availability."
