NJ to raise size limits on weddings, proms, outdoor gatherings, more May 10: Murphy

TRENTON, N.J. (1010 WINS) -- New Jersey will ease a number of COVID-19 restrictions next month, including its capacity limits for weddings, proms, funerals, outdoor gatherings and large outdoor venues, Gov. Phil Murphy said Monday.

Indoor room capacity will increase to 50 percent, with a maximum of 250 attendees, for the following events starting May 10, Murphy said at a news briefing:

• Private catered events, including weddings and school proms
• Political events
• Funerals and Memorial Services
• Performances

Private catered events will be allowed to have dance floors, with masks and social distancing, but bars, nightclubs and other businesses must keep their dance floors closed, the governor noted.

New Jersey will also increase its limit on outdoor gatherings to 500 people starting May 10, Murphy said.

Large outdoor venues, outdoor carnivals and outdoor fairs, meanwhile, will be allowed to increase capacity to 50 percent that day, with six-foot distancing, he said.
