NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – New York City hopes to vaccinate visitors at popular tourist sites across the city, Mayor Bill de Blasio said Thursday.

The mayor said the city plans to set up mobile vaccination sites at locations like the Empire State Building, Times Square, Central Park, the High Line and Brooklyn Bridge Park.

“We think this is a positive message to tourists,” de Blasio said. “Come here. It’s safe. It’s a great place to be. And we’re going to take care of you.”

The plan is to offer the single-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine to any tourist who wants it using mobile vans.

De Blasio said the state still has to sign off on the plan.

“We need the state to alter the rule that will allow us to provide vaccinations to folks from out of town,” the mayor said. “This is going to start as soon as we get that approval. We’re ready to go this weekend.”
