NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Drivers traveling along the Staten Island Expressway in recent weeks may have noticed a typo on an overhead sign.
A sign stationed over the New Jersey-bound lanes of the expressway reads “Geothals Bridge” instead of “Goethals Bridge,” the Staten Island Advance reported.
Several drivers called out the misspelling on social media over the weekend.
“New sign spelled Goethals wrong great job guys,” one Facebook user captioned a photo he took of the sign.
A spokesman for the New York State Department of Transportation told the New York Post an outside contractor installed the sign.
“We are aware of the misspelling of the signs and are taking immediate steps to address the issue with the contractor who was responsible for fabrication and installation,” the spokesman said, adding that the contractor would pay for the sign’s replacement.
