NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – A trailer carrying horses overturned after it was struck by a vehicle on the Belt Parkway in Brooklyn on Wednesday morning—and the unhurt animals were spotted walking along the busy highway during the morning rush.
Citizen App video shows two horses on the parkway, near Coney Island Avenue in Sheepshead Bay, with their handlers as firefighters and police inspect the overturned trailer after daybreak.
The NYPD confirmed that a carriage with horses overturned on the parkway. The department said there were no injuries to people or horses.
A hit-and-run driver struck the trailer around 5:50 a.m. before leaving the scene, police told the New York Post.
Handlers were seen guiding the horses on the shoulder of the expressway, just feet away from the overturned trailer, after the crash. Video from the Post also shows the equines grazing in a grassy area under an overpass.
A representative for the Jamaica Bay Riding Academy told the Post that the horses were coming from the academy and on their way to a horse show when their trailer was struck.
“God was with us, everything is OK,” the rep said. “Someone hit the truck and left the scene of the accident.”
