Boone’s previous contract had expired, and his future with the team was unclear after the Yankees’ third-place finish in the AL East and their devastating wild-card loss to the Red Sox.

But the Yankees signaled that they have faith in Boone, noting that he has led the team to the postseason in each of his first four seasons at the helm.

In a press release announcing the deal, Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner said Boone “possesses the baseball acumen and widespread respect in our clubhouse to continue to guide us forward.”

“As a team and as an organization, we must grow, evolve and improve. We need to get better. Period,” Steinbrenner said. “I know Aaron fully embraces our expectations of success, and I look forward to drawing on his intelligence, instincts and leadership in pursuit of our next World Series championship.”
