You may know Luke Grimes as the absolutely ruthless Kayce Dutton on Yellowstone, but his name and talents may be cast to a much wider audience in 2022.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Grimes opened up about his plans for the new year. A career in music.
His goal may seem like a dramatic shift from what we’re used to seeing, but once you get to know a bit about Grimes’ past, it’ll make his future prospects that much more exciting.
Prior to becoming a Yellowstone star, Grimes served as a drummer for a Los Angeles Country band. “It was around that time when the alt-country thing was really going on. Wilco and Ryan Adams were really big then and we were kind of like that,” he said. “I played guitar too and helped write songs for the band, so I got to be more than just the drummer. It was a cool experience.”
As he makes his return to music, Grimes has already put together quite the team. Working with the management team behind Midland, Hailey Whitters, and his Yellowstone co-star Ryan Bingham, Grimes has already written several new songs and is scheduled to take part in co-writing sessions in Nashville.
Before he heads out to Nashville, he’s getting inspiration from his current home in Montana. The isolation he’s surrounded by helps his creative process and will have a direct result on what we hear when he releases his music. “This just happens to be what my life is right now. I’m driving a diesel truck on a highway with no one on it,” he says. “That’s the feeling you get being here.”
