Lambers Fisher on Black leadership in politics, re-imagining how to meet community needs and what it means for Minnesota to elect its first woman as governor

Lambers Fisher is a close friend of the program. Only three Black governors have been elected to the highest State office over the course of American history. This year there are a record eight Black candidates running for governor in their respective states. Lambers and Sheletta talk about the history of Black representations in politics, the progress actively in the making and the current challenges candidates are facing in today’s political climate. In their second segment Sheletta asks why it's taken so long for Minnesota to elect a woman as governor and gender equity. Lambers Fisher, MS, LMFT, MDIV, is a marriage and family therapist who has counseled individuals, couples, and families from a variety of cultural backgrounds, in private practice and non-profit organizations, as well as ministry environments. Lambers Fisher also hosts the “Diversity Dude Podcast”. Lambers joins Sheletta to talk about BIPOC Mental Health Month and his work as a therapist to destigmatize the seeking of mental health services within the BIPOC community. They discuss the barriers and generational beliefs that have often kept people from mental health care. Find Lambers at lamberfisher.com
