Mary Kosuth, PhD, (she/her) has been studying microplastic pollution for a decade. She is Postdoctoral Fellow at the Institute on the Environment at the University of Minnesota. Sheletta saw that the University of Minnesota released some new findings about microplastics. , Dr. Mary Kosuth is behind the research and started working on this in 2016. She shares the decade-long journey that has led to the findings and how much has changed in this area of science.
In their second segment, Dr. Kosuth and Sheletta talk about the history of plastic and the scale to which our society uses it. They also talk about the many uses of the material and how its affordability has enabled our over reliant and wasteful tendencies. Sheletta asks about the impact of microplastics on our water supply and wildlife.
