Congressman William Timmons on the S.A.V.E. Act Votes

00:00 So first, black people didn't have IDs. Then it was going to be too hard for women to get IDs. And now listen to what they're talking about in the Senate. That is not the half of it. Just consider all the people who will face new challenges just to vote for no good reason. If you are a student who just moved to start college, Republicans will make it harder for you to vote. Okay, because you can't use your college ID. 00:30 As we're talking to Representative William Timmons right now, Congressman Timmons, welcome to the program, sir. Hope you're doing well. Charlie, good afternoon. Great to be with you. You know, the funny thing is, is it's actually illegal in most states for you to vote if you are in college there. You have to vote where you are from. Right. That's even funnier. Yeah. So I don't even understand the rules of voting here, but SAVE Act, it passed the test vote 5148. Murkowski voted no. 00:59 Tom Tillis didn't vote at all. Are you aware of what's going on now with what they're calling storming the floor? 01:09 I'm not tracking. We've been busy in the house. But I know that there's a lot of people trying very hard to get it done. But the Democrats are trying to every procedural mechanism to stop them. And I think it is, I mean, I know there's a lot of debate about whether or not we should do away with the filibuster, but we know that the Democrats are going to do away with it once they're in power. So you either use it when it benefits you or they use it when it benefits them. So I mean, do you think this thing is ever going to do? Do you think it's going to get passed? 01:39 I'm not optimistic, I gotta be honest. We'll see, the Democrats are gonna have to defend us and we're gonna hang it around their necks for the midterms. So, and you told us last time you guys have another version ready to go, right? I was talking to the White House earlier today. I'm not clear whether they're gonna try to amend it in the Senate because the president wants to add no men and women's sports and he wants to add no transgender surgeries for minors. 02:08 I mean, you know, they got to do that in the next, they got to amend it right now. So we'll see what happens. Yeah, we will see what happens with that. So I'm not sure how that's going to go. Tell us about H.R. 1958. I think this is a great idea, especially when we're seeing all that went on in Minneapolis. Now we're hearing that Maine is another hotbed of fraud, California hotbed of fraud, the Deporting Fraudsters Act. That's going to be on the floor tomorrow afternoon. 02:37 It is. And honestly, it's just common sense. If you come to this country and you defraud the American taxpayers, you shouldn't be allowed to stay. I mean, it's as simple as that. You're right. And it would ensure that individuals who commit fraud against programs like Social Security, SNAP and other public benefits, they are deportable. well, even uh Congressman Biggs, Congresswoman Biggs said that if you come here, 03:05 and you commit crimes and you commit fraud, then you should go and you should be, you know, denaturalized. 03:14 right? That's exactly right. That's exactly right. And I mean, we've got to create this sense for people to continue to break into this country illegally. And I think that's a great way to do it. Yeah, absolutely right. So tell us about, mean, here we are, we've got the Department of Homeland Security, that shut down, TSA is shut down, Coast Guard shut down, FEMA shut down. None of these things have anything to do with ICE. Why are the Democrats keeping the government shut down? 03:42 That's the only levers they have. And so they're trying to use the government shutdown to inflict pain to get concessions out of the president. This is not going to work. Yeah. The fact that they're using TSA pay and you got all these PSA that are working that they're not getting paid and lines are getting abysmally long and airports are becoming complete log jams and it's just ridiculous. So the fact that the Democrats are playing these games is just outrageous. 04:10 Yeah, it is outrageous and they're playing and they're using the American people. They're punishing them for, well, they're using them as pawns to inflict as much pain as possible. Let's turn to Iran right now. um The Gulf of the Strait of Hormuz, that's been a mode of contention. Does this surprise you that some of our allies have really kind of turned their backs on us? 04:34 Listen, Iran is the biggest state-sponsored terrorism in the world and they've killed Americans but they've also killed many other citizens in many other countries. So I think that the biggest reason they're not helping is because they know that we're gonna do it without them and they're just trying to uh let us do all the work and I think we're gonna remember that. 04:57 Yeah, I mean, the same thing with NATO, same thing with all of the other organizations that we were part of. We were the ones that always carried the greatest burden on that. Let's swear it on Capitol Hill right now. Are people worried about these gas prices the way they are right now? Well, the Treasury Secretary said it best last year, sometimes you got to take your medicine. And if we need to have higher gas prices for a few weeks to get rid of the nuclear Iran, to neutralize the threat once and for all. 05:27 It's a price we have to pay. listen, I understand it's challenging and I understand it's going to increase cost temporarily, but this is not going to go on forever. We have the best military in the world, the most lethal military in the world, and they will neutralize the threat and we will all be better off for it. And gas prices will come way back down. Yeah, that's what the president is saying. And he kind of alluded in the White House the other day that this war was going to be over pretty quickly. And I hope he's right about that. And then those gas prices are going to come down. 05:57 I do you expect that we're going to be or the president's going to be using any sort of tariffs? you think we're going to? Well, ultimately, do you think we're going to take control of the state of Hormuz? I do, actually. We're not going to allow the Iranians to create this barrier to trade, create this. I mean, really, it's a global security issue. To allow a terrorist state to block trade is just not going to work. 06:26 So we are going to secure it and we're going to continue to wipe out their leadership. I don't know who these people are that are stepping forward to serve when the five predecessors have all been killed. they're going to eventually get it through their thick head. Now, James Comer has come out and he has subpoenaed Pam Bondi for the House Oversight Committee. What is that about? 06:53 Oh, I did. He did not? Oh, was it really? Nancy Nance. Yeah, I mean, it's ridiculous. The fact that Nancy Nance is subpoenaing the attorney general, the Republican attorney general is just, I mean, it's just grandstanding at its best. I feel like this is a broken record. I mean, what's next? So uh listen, we're meeting, I'm meeting with the attorney general tomorrow and they're doing the best that they can. There's millions of documents in. 07:20 they've actually failed to redact them appropriately. And so they're failing at releasing them and they're damaging lives. They're damaging lives. So, mean, Nancy's responsible for all this and there's gonna eventually be consequences. I mean, she's gonna continue to try to get the limelight and you know, she has the ability to that because of the procedures that we have, but the people's lives that she's damaging, their stories will be told as well. And I think she's gonna have some eggs on her face. 07:50 There you go. All right, Congressman William Timmons. Always a pleasure, sir. We'll talk to you again soon. Thank you. Be well. Take care. All right. So there you go. I thought it was I thought I read today where Jim Comer actually did subpoena Pam Pondy to the House Oversight Committee. But I might have been wrong about that. But talking about American allies, President Trump, just I mean, just like he did for the Democrats. He laid a trap. 08:20 for our so-called allies and they walked right into it. We'll be right back. It's the Charlie James show. News Talk 98.9, WORD, the voice of the Carolinas.
