00:00 All right, welcome to the program on your Tuesday afternoon. Not only is it Tuesday, ah, yes, it's St. Patrick's Day, isn't it? Yes, that's right. Today we celebrate St. Patrick. Now, remember, if you're talking about St. Patrick, it's P-A-D-D-Y, not P-A-T-T-Y. Just to let you know, they get a little offended over that, but there you go. So, yep, wearing my green today so I don't get pinched. Don't want about a pinch in me. 00:29 during the show and then we'll be talking about Ireland coming up in a little bit because they're their new president gave a statement as always happens on st. Patrick's Day and the people over there in Ireland are like wait a minute. What are you talking about? Hold on. I mean, it's like she she completely rewrote history Why? Because she wants to make it all about immigration. We'll tell you about that coming up. But right now in Washington DC, we're gonna have a we're gonna have debate 00:59 Oh, I'm so looking forward to it. Charlie, they're going to be debating this bill. It's going to be wonderful. They're going to debate it. No, it's not. It's going to be it's not going to matter a hill of beans. What happens today in all of this debate? That we're going to have. This vote that they will take whenever they take it, if it's today, if it's tonight, if it's tomorrow, doesn't matter. This vote will not show us. 01:28 where people's loyalty lie. Because remember, we still haven't done away with the filibuster. We still haven't done away with the zombie filibuster. That means no matter what happens today, it's still going to take 60 votes to pass this Save America Act. And they're not there. They're just not there. Now what this actually is, in my opinion, is cover 01:57 for the Republicans out there who do not want the Save America Act. This is cover for Murkowski. This is cover for McConnell. They're going to vote with it. They'll vote with it. You watch. You watch. This thing tonight, I almost practically guarantee you, is going to get 100 % Republican support. 02:26 But they're not going to get the Democrats that they need to pass it. So then they're going to be able to go back to their districts and their states rather, they're going to be able to go back to their states and say, hey, hey, we tried. Oh, man, was a long, I'll tell you, it's a long, tough fight there. We fought real hard for this thing, but we just couldn't, we just couldn't get the Democrat support on it. We just couldn't get the Democrats. 02:52 So they're going to lie to their people back in their home state. 02:58 And then they're to go back to their little office and they're just going to snicker and they're going to go, hee hee hee hee hee hee. I wasn't going to vote for that thing anyway. Hee hee hee hee hee. You watch. It'll be unanimous and the media will come along and they'll talk about how it was party lines and all of that stuff. But we'll see. We'll see. They're already lying about this thing. So John Thune, and I found this to be extremely ironic today. John Thune. 03:26 called out the hypocrisy of the Democrats. message that came over from the House includes a couple of key components. One of which is that you have to prove citizenship to be able to register to vote in this country. And the second component is that you actually have to show an ID to vote in this country. We think those are both things that are overwhelmingly popular all across this country, no matter what your political party is. And just to sort of illustrate, think, how uh 03:55 This issue is something that a lot of people resonate with and connect to is the fact that pretty much everything you do in your daily life involves showing an ID. Okay, and he's right about that. I if you want to get a library card, you got to show an ID. If you want to take something to the dump, you got to show an ID to make sure you live in that county. Right now, he's right about that. 04:26 But I don't think John Thune, and the reason that John Thune is talking about, because remember, out there somewhere in the ether is a Donald Trump endorsement for either Ken Paxton. 04:42 or John Cornyn. And John Thune really wants President Trump to endorse John Cornyn because he's in trouble. He's in trouble. That endorsement might not even help Cornyn at all. But he's in trouble. He could be the first Democrat, or I'm sorry, he could be the first Senator. I guess he's the same thing. He could be the first Senator, incumbent Senator, to lose his seat in 20 years. uh 05:11 That's a little history notation that nobody wants. So Mike Lee is calling for any GOP senator that votes against it to be voted out of office. Listen to what John Thune said about that. He has suggested that Republicans who don't support a talking filibuster to pass this should be replaced or primary. What's your response to him and what do you make of his tactics around this bill? Well, again, I prefer to have our fights with Democrats. 05:41 Yeah, yeah, that could be your big problem. That could be your big problem. That John Thune is such an ineffective leader that he can't even get this bill over the finish line. Let's go to Linda in Charlotte. Lyndon, how are you, Lyndon? Hey, sir, thanks for taking me. Yes, You know, it just seems that the politicians we have in place 06:09 The issues are so cut and dry and simple. It just seems like every little bit of bureaucracy and red tape keeps anything from getting done. one thing I wanted to throw out there, know, you see these people that are leaning towards communism and there's a good bit of them. And, you know, I understand that 06:36 We have never experienced this in our country and most people don't experience it in their life. But our government is so corrupt. So I just can kind of see why people would want to be like, all right, well, what's this avenue like? And we know what the answer is going to be there, but gosh, why can't everything just be 07:03 little simpler. It's just so crazy. Yeah, I think we left simple a long time ago. Lyndon, are you a first-time caller? I've called in maybe once or twice. Okay, I just want to double check because the bell is already ready. I appreciate it, Lyndon. Thank you very much. So I got this guy over on eggs who follows me who's obviously a radical liberal and it says, this is why the SAVE Act is controversial. What it sold as, common sense voter ID. 07:32 What it actually does is require documentary proof of US citizenship to register. Oh no! Say it ain't so. Yeah, that's exactly what we want. I mean, the Constitution says you have to be a citizen to vote. So we just want people to prove that they're citizens. That's all. That's all it is. So where the barrier is, registration becomes a choke point. 08:00 in-person paperwork may be required, database check, triggers removals, miss a deadline, not register. You lose your vote before election day. That's a bunch of hokum. It really is. So let's go to Stephen and Peevon and talk to him. Stephen, welcome. Hey, how you doing? Doing good. What's up, man? Hey, I got a quick question because I'm still semi-new to politics. All right. What's the whole point? 08:28 or least the whole enthusiasm of us controlling the White House, the Senate, the House, and all that other stuff whenever nothing gets done. Well, nothing is getting done because of the Senate right now. Because in the Senate, you have to have, as things stand right now, you have to have things passed with 60 votes. We've only got 53 Republican senators in the Senate. 08:56 Okay, so means we're seven votes short. Okay, so even if we did control everything, we still need basically the Democrats to be able to, we need some of them to be able to vote on our side. Right, right. you, yeah, if you replace the word control with the word majority, we have the majority in the Senate, but we do not actually have control of the Senate. Okay, okay. Yeah, because I was a little confused. I thought it was just. 09:26 I thought I was saying that if we control all of it, means like everything should get passed through plain and simple. Yeah, you would think that would be the case, but unfortunately it is not. Let's go to Malcolm in Duncan. How you doing, Malcolm? I'm doing good, sir. How about you? I'm doing fantastic. What's up? On this voting, if you go to a new doctor or anything like that, what do they ask for? An ID? An ID. Yeah. And I'm not sure. I served this country when you had to be 21 years to vote. 09:56 I think they should raise it back to 21. Yeah, but they want to they want to reduce it to 16. That's not right. Now. At that point, 1918, 1920, a lot of them is not level headed enough to know what's going on and how to vote and who to vote for. And that's what the Democrats want. They don't want level headed people. They want it. They don't want informed people to be able to vote. Malcolm, I think it's absolutely crazy. 10:24 When we get back, there was a resignation in the Trump administration today. I'll tell you what that was all about. It's the Charlie James show, News Talk 98.9, WORD, the voice of the Carolinas.
