In a letter dated October 7th, Federal Emergency Management Agency Administrator Cameron Hamilton stated that assistance for Illinois' affected counties was “not warranted".
Reacting to FEMA's letter, Governor J.B. Pritzker said President Trump should "never play politics" with storm victims' homes, businesses, and infrastructure.
Illinois’ request was for individual and public assistance for the storm-damaged counties of Champaign, Cook, Ford, Fulton, McLean, Tazewell, Vermilion, and Will.
Governor Pritzker says the State of Illinois will appeal FEMA's decision.
