Arts Alliance Illinois is calling on Mayor Brandon Johnson to increase the city's cultural grant budget by $15 Million.
A recent analysis found that Chicago is the only one of America's five largest cities to cut funding for its local arts agency during its most recent budget cycle.
Last year, Chicago's Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events awarded $10.8 Million in grants to artists and arts organizations ranging from the Joffrey Ballet to the South Side storefront Perceptions Theatre.
Then for this year, the DCASE suffered a 15% cut in its budget.
