AT&T has won a preliminary victory from the FCC as it looks to phase out traditional landline service for 184,000 California households.
Customers won’t be disconnected immediately, the decision keeps alive AT&T’s push to override California rules requiring it to maintain landline service.
Critics warn the move could leave some residents, especially senior citizens in rural areas without reliable emergency communication options.
