37 years ago today, at 5:04 pm, the Bay Area was shaken to its core as the Loma Prieta earthquake hit, centered 56 miles south of San Francisco and registering a magnitude of 6.9 on the Richter scale.
63 people died, more than 37,000 injured, and more than 12,000 people displaced.
To find out what we've learned about earthquakes since then and a look ahead, KCBS' Scott Cohn spoke with seismologist Dr. Lucy Jones, founder of the Dr. Lucy Jones Center for Science and Society.
