Responding to a Marple Township home along West Chester Pike near Old West Chester Pike for a well-being call over the weekend, police and firefighters broke into the residence and found the body of a 67-year-old woman inside.
Police say several malnourished dogs and cats were on the premises. They were removed and are in the care of animal rescue organizations.
Officials aren't certain as to how long the woman had been dead. The medical examiner is in the process of determining the cause of death.
The woman's identity isn't being released pending family notification.
