Christa Pike, the Tennessee woman who survived two lethal injections, is in critical condition.
Her attorney, Randy Spivey, gave an update on her condition. He said it's unclear if she might have suffered brain damage from being deprived of oxygen.
He called the process cruel and torturous, saying he was “haunted” by watching and hearing Pike talking, singing and then snoring loudly during her more than 90 minutes in the death chamber.
Pike was convicted of torturing and murdering a classmate with her boyfriend in 1995 when she was 18. She confessed but said her traumatic childhood and years of abuse played a role in her actions.
