As promised, a Philadelphia City Council committee has issued subpoenas to a Parker administration official and the president of Drexel University to testify about the closure of the Academy of Natural Sciences.
The committee members were unhappy on Monday when Drexel President Antonio Merlo failed to appear and sent a representative and Deputy Mayor Trish Wellenbach sent only written testimony.
Councilman Jeffery Young ripped up the testimony in anger and said he would subpoena the officials. The committee chairman followed through on Thursday.
Merlo and Wellenbach have been compelled to appear before the committee on Nov. 16.
