City Council to hold hearing on police crackdown in Gayborhood during Pride

City Council will hold a hearing on Wednesday on the police crackdown on large crowds in the Gayborhood during Pride. Cops say the crowds got unruly and some people even started jumping on cars and a fight broke out. Officers made 14 arrests. Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel has acknowledged that the department might have made mistakes, including keeping streets open to cars that day. Unlike the last few years, they were not closed to traffic because the main celebration was on the Parkway. Councilmember Rue Landau says police conduct left many people feeling unsafe and confused. She says the goal of the hearing is "promoting transparency, accountability, and a better understanding of the policing of large public events and an eye toward Pride 2027."
