The Yankees finally open their Wild Card showdown with the Red Sox, and Evan Roberts argues Boston’s season was built on one historic hot streak surrounded by long stretches of mediocre baseball. That puts even more pressure on the Yankees to take care of business at Yankee Stadium, with Cam Schlittler on the mound and Gerrit Cole potentially waiting for a winner-take-all Game 3.
The bigger consequence could come for Aaron Boone. Evan believes a series loss to Boston could end Boone’s Yankees tenure, while Tiki Barber and Shaun Morash weigh how much Aaron Judge’s situation and the short-series format could factor into that decision. Plus, the Giants’ trade for J.J. McCarthy, John Harbaugh’s plans at quarterback, and an early Rangers season prediction.
