George Lombard Jr. has given the Yankees something they desperately needed: energy, confidence and a reason to believe their offense can finally look different. Shaun Morash is in for Evan Roberts alongside Tiki Barber, and Shaun argues Lombard’s impact goes far beyond the box score. His defense, speed, poise and ability to create runs have made him look ready for an even bigger role.
Tiki remains cautious because the Yankees still struggle badly to score, but their dominant starting pitching has created a legitimate path to winning in October. The biggest question is whether Aaron Boone should stop treating Lombard like a typical rookie and move him straight to the top of the lineup.
