A Peters Township first-grade teacher is facing charges after police say she showed up to class drunk. According to a court citation, Katharine Viviano left Pleasant Valley Elementary around 11 a.m. last Thursday to buy alcohol. Police say she hit a parked car while returning to the school, then locked herself inside a classroom bathroom. Her first-grade students were left unattended and were moved to another classroom by a fellow teacher. Staff later found Viviano semi-conscious. Police say she had slurred speech, bloodshot eyes and an odor of alcohol. She admitted to drinking vodka and is charged with public drunkenness.
