Ben Cherington defended the lack of bullpen help for the Pirates yesterday, after Dennis Santana gave up a walkoff homer to Travis Bazzana. Cherington said that some of the bullpen help will come internally, and that they still have faith in a lot of the guys in the bullpen. Poni mentions that the Pirates are going to have to give up assets to get assets, and that Cherington can’t be afraid to do this if he doesn’t want to end up with nothing. Poni also thinks that Cherington is operating as if his job is secure.
