One week after Callas won the Fan Producer Spelling Bee, the guys credited Donny for being on Callas’ sandbagging for years. After what we heard about Tua Tagovailoa winning the Falcons QB1 job, should the Steelers be more than a 3.5-point favorite? Atlanta has plenty of talent on offense, but they lack greatly at quarterback.
NFL insider Jeremy Fowler from ESPN joined the show. Jeremy doesn’t have optimism that the Steelers will ink Joey Porter Jr. to a new deal ahead of their own deadline, which is Sunday at kickoff. Jeremy still doesn’t believe the Steelers have made a formal offer to Porter as other corners get their money. Jeremy isn’t sure how hard Pittsburgh is actually trying to make the deal happen. Jeremy said the team sees Porter as a high-level player, but are using his lack of accolades against him. Jeremy isn’t 100% sold that Porter will play against the Falcons on Sunday and the Steelers should be prepared to have Asante Samuel Jr. in that spot. Jeremy added that Porter not playing may have to do with ramping up and being ready instead of holding out. How much did Samuel’s play late last season and into this season factor into the team’s stance on all of this? Jeremy wondered if the asking price has changed since other corners have gotten their deals. Jeremy doesn’t think Porter is considered to be a top tier corner in league circles, but there may be some teams that feel he is. Is there anything Porter can do to deter the Steelers from changing their longtime tradition of not negotiating during the season?
