Former Penguin Tyler Kennedy joined the show. Alex Ovechkin announced that this would be his final season and tonight is the first of 4 matchups between the Penguins and Capitals this season. TK said it’s no surprise that Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby became friends over the years. Tyler has never seen a player like Ovi, who has a nastiness to his game despite being the all-time leader in goals. TK commented on the on-ice battles between Evgeni Malkin and Ovechkin over the last 20 years. Tyler said Ovi is an awesome dude outside the game and loves that he was finally able to get his Stanley Cup after so many years. How difficult was it to slow down Ovechkin’s scoring ability? The Penguins have also made a trade – sending Fillip Hallander to the Oilers in exchange for Spencer Stastney. TK liked what he saw from Hallander in training camp, but it’s clear the team didn’t have long-term plans for him. Tyler thinks this indicates a return of Bryan Rust or another injured player. TK said the bottom 4-5 guys on the roster need to feel some pressure since a few players will be coming back from injury.
