Less than 24 hours after Sophie Turner filed a lawsuit against Joe Jonas for "the immediate return of children wrongfully removed or wrongfully retained,” Jonas is speaking out calling the claim “misleading.”

The documents, filed by Turner on Thursday (9/21), were in reference to the couple’s two young daughters, and sued Jonas in order for him to return their two children back to her in England. According to the reports, Jonas, “Has possession of the children’s passports. He refuses to return the passports to the Mother and refuses to send the children home to England with the Mother.”
In a statement released by representatives for Jonas and obtained by PEOPLE, the pair had allegedly reached an "amicable co-parenting setup" during a meeting on Sunday (9/17) in New York. In the 24 hours following that meeting, Turner expressed she wanted to take both children to England permanently, which was not part of the agreed upon plan discussed on Sunday.
Additionally, the Florida Court, where Joe filed for divorce “already entered an order that restricts both parents from relocating the children.” Sophie was allegedly served that order more than two weeks ago on September 6.
According to the statement on Joe’s behalf, “If he complies [with Turner’s request], Joe will be in violation of the Florida Court order."
“This is an unfortunate legal disagreement about a marriage that is sadly ending,” the statement continues, which also shares Joe is seeking shared parenting of the children and is OK with them being raised in both the US and UK. “When language like 'abduction' is used, it is misleading at best, and a serious abuse of the legal system at worst. The children were not abducted.”
