By now we’re beyond used to, and for that matter anticipate, Machine Gun Kelly to have us excitedly bewildered by his fashion choices. But, at the 2022 American Music Awards, MGK rocked what is by far his most out-there and unexpected outfit yet.

Opting for a vibrant purple Dolce & Gabbana two-piece suit, embellished with long metal spikes from head, to shoulders, to knees, to toes (well, ankles), Kelly was clearly not satisfied with the level of edge, adding more to his already bold look (yes it’s possible) by accessorizing with a silver chain necklace adorned with spikes (duh), an array of matching rings, and black silver-studded combat boots.
And his bold statements didn’t stop there...
While accepting his award for Favorite Rock Artist, MGK took the opportunity to call out any and all naysayers who have called him a “tourist” of the Rock genre. After first starting off by quipping that next year he’d be "petitioning for a larger mic stand," Kelly then mentioned how "this suit is really uncomfortable to pee in,” before addressing his haters.
"Speaking of uncomfortable,” he said, "there have been some people in the Rock community who have called me a tourist. They're wrong. I'm a rocket man.”
He continued, "we weren't born on the moon, but we looked at it and we were curious... and these last two Rock albums to me were me going to the moon." Adding, "I'm not done exploring the universe yet, and I am all genres,” before a bit of cursing and a mic stand drop.
A bold, spiky statement indeed. If you haven’t yet, see for yourself, check out Machine Gun Kelly’s acceptance speech below.
